MacAMP

MacAmp is an MPEG Layer 3 (a.k.a. MPEG-3 or MP3) audio player for the Macintosh. MP3 audio compression makes it possible to compress large audio files to nearly ten percent of their original size, with no audible loss of quality. MacAmp simply takes these compressed files and decompresses them in real time, while sending and buffering output to your computer's speakers. This results in incredibly small files that deliver top acoustic quality. It is even possible to download a CD-quality stereo sound file over an ISDN line and listen to it simultaneously. When you select the Interrupt mode, MacAmp will run in the background so that audio is constantly played no matter what you're working on. It is recommended that you read the included documentation files before using this program. This public beta version fixes bugs, enhances its MPEG recognition capabilities, increases support for file tags, and improves the overall stability of the program.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

  • Modern non-CPU intensive player engine
  • Fully optimized PowerPC code
  • MPEG Layer II & III support

ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE

  •   Elegant and usable user interface
  •   Easy GUI customization
  •   Playlists

Unfortunately, due to the amount of processing power required in decoding MP3 files, a PPC macintosh is required
